Multiple People Shot at Howe Community Park Sacramento — Unauthorized Gathering Turns Violent
Late Saturday evening, an unlawful gathering of an estimated several hundred individuals at Howe Community Park in Sacramento County's Arden-Arcade neighborhood became the scene of a shooting when between 20 and 25 shots were discharged as Sacramento County Sheriff's Office deputies were working to breaking up the gathering.
How Events Unfolded
At around 6:30 PM on April 18, the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office received calls involving subjects possibly armed with concealed weapons at the park. A second caller indicated a reported fight and subjects running away.
An airship was dispatched and swept the area but did not locate the reported fight.
Despite this, multiple hundreds of people had gathered at the park for what law enforcement classified as an unapproved assembly. Deputies formed a perimeter around the park, illuminated the area with emergency lights, and gave the crowd approximately 15 minutes announcing over loudspeakers for people to leave via loudspeaker announcements.
While deputies were dispersing the crowd, 20 to 25 gunshots filled the night air — triggering a panicked crowd in every direction.
Victims of the Shooting
Four shooting victims — a female and three here male victims, ranging in age through their 20s — were transported to area hospitals. Two were classified with immediate injuries, one victim had moderate injuries, and one suffered injuries classified as minor. Each of the four victims was in stable condition. Metro Fire Sacramento assisted with on-scene medical triage in the field.
Scene Details
The crime scene was located on the Cottage Way side of the park near the Home Depot store at the 2200 website block of Howe Avenue. The nearby Home Depot was put under a brief lockdown. Additional shell casings were identified on Cottage Way, with projectile damage found in the metal fence surrounding the nearby Home Depot — pointing to gunfire directed south from Cottage Way toward the Home Depot. The Suspect Vehicle
